We are, in general, familiar with the question "Which came first, the Chicken or the Egg?". And perhaps with the exception of a select few who would give a definite answer, the rest of us would refrain from choosing between the two options.
The Chicken and the Egg coexist in a spiral (or cycle) that ensures the continued existence of each other; much like other self-perpetuating cycles. Self perpetuating cycles like anger, selfishness, hatred.
The answer to "Which came first, the Chicken or the Egg?" is irrelevent, just as the answer to who threw the first hurtful word or action, or who launched the first assault missile, is irrelevent (or pointless).
Remove either the Chicken or the Egg, and neither exists. And again, there would not be any point to ask which came first.
While I do not play down the importance of learning the past for the purpose of learning FROM history, i think its more on a "good-to-know basis" rather than a "need-to-know basis".
Its quite amusing to read back on what i've written and see how much it looks like a mini-political essay. It just makes one realise how alike interpersonal relationships are to politics.
